Brno, Oct 6 (BD) – October has arrived, bringing a whole host of amazing international festivals and events to Brno. The coming week will be a perfect time for expats, international students and foreigners, not to mention locals, to enjoy the two most talked-about film festivals, EKOFILM and B16, or check out some fascinating events, such as a business storytelling night or a history tour back to WWII. Don’t waste your time looking elsewhere, as we’ve made a list for you, so all you need to do is read this, then relax and look forward to your week!

On Monday there is an unmissable opportunity to gain more knowledge about Industry 4.0 and the digital era. You might think this sounds difficult to digest on a Monday, but the International Engineering Fair will not disappoint. This is one of the biggest industrial events in Central Europe, where you can find the most up-to-date digital products and find out how technology is used in the most recent trends of the circular economy. Check here for more information (in English) or to buy your ticket (around 220 CZK – 240 CZK).

If you are interested in business and looking for networking opportunities, attend the Success in Brno evening event on October 8th. This is a great opportunity to meet successful people in Brno, who will share their business stories in a panel discussion. This event is free of charge, all you need to do is register via this link (in English).

What do you usually do in your spare time? This is one of the most common questions when deciding what to do for a chill day, and surely one of the most popular answers would be “watching films”. If you are one of those then you can’t miss EKOFILM – The 45th International Film Festival 2019. The main theme of this festival is “Nature – Our Heritage”, and the festival will run from October 9th – 13th with various activities such as discussions, concerts and experiential programs for film lovers. Find more information here (in English).

How about short films? Some people may like them even more than ordinary films, so Brno16 – the 60th International Short Film Festival is a perfect idea. The oldest film festival in Czech Republic returns with a competition involving 40 international short films from around the world. The title of this festival is “The Future”, and there are various types of short films, from student productions to professional ones. There will be admission fees and concert tickets for this festival. See more at the Facebook event (in Czech and English).

Did you miss the last September Meetup in Brno? Or are you new to town? If so, here comes the October Meetup by Foreigners Brno, a sociable monthly meeting for expats, students and newcomers to Brno. There is nothing better than meeting new friends, sharing stories and enjoying the changing weather of the Autumn with a beer. You are welcome to bring along as many friends as you can as the more the merrier and you will be surprised by how much fun and knowledgeable you get from them. Save the date: Thursday October 10th, and remember to fill in the form before participating.

If you’re interested in the history of Brno, there is a very interesting tour on Thursday you should not miss. The World War II Tour with Brno Hang-out will show you the role Brno played in WW2 during the Nazi occupation, until the rise of Communism. To learn more about this free tour, check the Facebook event (in English).

Fan of comics? From Thursday until Sunday, you should definitely stop by the KOMA International Comics Festival, the first comic festival in Brno to present contemporary art. There will be exhibitions, art installations, concerts, theatre plays, storytelling, film screenings, live painting, workshops, a comic book market, and much more. To see the full event program, check the official ΚΟΜΑ website (in Czech and English).

Are you one of those who can’t wait for the next new James Bond or Marvel release? Then you cannot miss the upcoming movie party. Not only the movies but also the soundtracks of these iconic movies will be mixed and screened at Movie Party: In Costume with DJ Cuba 6 Movie Hits (“Movie party: v kostýmech s filmovými hity od DJ Cuba 6 @Sono”). There will be lots of opportunities to win tickets or free drinks in a lot of competitions. Check it out now at the Facebook event (in Czech) and mark it on your social calendar.

If Japanese cuisine never lets you down and you savour every bite of sushi, then you are going to love Sushi Day. This pop-up sushi bar will reappear each month, and this time it is on October 12th at Jean Paul’s Bistro. The bar will open only in the afternoon from 2pm-9pm to serve their loyal sushi lover fans. Sweet and sour rolls, tuna nigiri and more will be prepared in a set of 24 pieces.
