Thunderstorm Causes Flash Flooding In Brno and Surrounding Areas

Brno, Jun 7 (BD) – By 7 AM on Friday morning, the South Moravian Fire Service had recorded 35 separate incidents, mainly in the Brno and Blansko districts. The first, just before 2am, was a flooded cellar in Veverská Bitýška. 22 of the incidents required the firefighters to pump water from flooded buildings, but there were also several roads which experienced flooding, including  Jedovnická and Hradecká in Brno.

Jakuba Obrovského in Bystrc experienced the most serious flooding, over one metre deep, affecting a shop, the boiler room of an apartment building, a commercial warehouse, the basement of another store and two underground garages. In Blansko district, four fallen trees had to be removed. The situation began to return to normal around 5am, but the fire service was still receiving reports of new incidents well into the morning.
