Brno, Jul 23 (BD) – At the moment, Brno’s sports arena has the most modern hockey boards and lighting throughout the Czech Republic. Investments in necessary equipment were much needed, due to changes in the rules and regulations of the IIHF.
The replacement of the boards surrounding the ice rink was priced at around CZK 5.8 million, and was paid by STAREZ-SPORT – the city company that manages the council’s sport-related investments, and is also the owner of the Rondo Sports Hall.
The renovations were completed as planned, and were finished in mid-July. New additions in the arena include new plexiglass, new benches, and LED lighting. The new lighting was financed by the City of Brno, which was priced at around CZK 5 million.
“New lighting was necessary not only to improve the audience’s viewing experience, but also to reduce the costs of running the hall. It will also help to improve television broadcasts,” says Brno’s First Deputy Mayor, Petr Hladík.
Construction of Rondo Hall began in 1972, and the building was opened in 1982 to host the World Bowling Championships. It came under the ownership of STAREZ-SPORT in 2005, and now hosts matches of HC Kometa Brno, along with other sporting and cultural events, including concerts.
