Country-wide protests continue weekly, as demonstrators show their dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, and the changes in the Czech government – specifically, the appointment of a new Minister of Justice, Marie Benešová. Photo credit: KK.
Brno, May 29 (BD) – The weekly protests are organized in Brno by same organizations from the previous protests: South-Moravian volunteer association “Together Brno” (Společně Brno), and the country-wide political movement “A Million Moments for Democracy” (Milion chvilek pro demokracii).
Last night’s protests, according to Together Brno, gathered the attendance of more than 5,000 demonstrators. Many people joined the protests in spite of the rainy conditions at Dominikánské Náměstí, with demonstrators showing their solidarity by carrying Czech and European Union flags.
The protest in Brno last night was the largest one, out of all the protests which happened at 240 places throughout the Czech Republic yesterday. There were no scheduled protests for Prague this week.
The first instance of these demonstrations began this year, a day before the new Minister of Justice was appointed. Read more on the first protests against the government changes pushed by Babiš on our previous story, “Demonstrations Planned Tonight in Czechia Against the Government’s Change in Minister of Justice”. Altogether, these protests are sparked by more developments in the so-called Stork’s Nest (Čapí hnízdo) affair.
