Signal Festival 2025: Prague’s Citywide Digital Transformation

Signal Festival returns to Prague from 16-19 October, promising a dazzling four-night transformation of the city through cutting-edge digital art, light installations, immersive projections, and international creative collaborations. As one of Central Europe’s top digital art events, the 13th edition will feature a record 20 installations, introducing new festival concepts, expanding indoor and outdoor programs, and opening Prague’s first ever year-round digital art gallery.

Ambitious Expansion and New Venues

Signal Festival 2025 is a citywide celebration, weaving artistic connections across both iconic and hidden landmarks—monasteries, parks, palaces, clubs, and, for the first time, Prague Castle. Two curated festival routes—the Centre Route and Vinohrady Route—guide visitors through 13 outdoor light installations, all free to the public, as well as seven ticketed, immersive venues in the highly anticipated Signal INSIDE program.

A key highlight is the debut of two monumental videomapping projections:

  • Italian studio MammasONica transforms the 70-metre Old Town Hall tower with OVERLOЯD, blending historic architecture and digital abstraction to explore the interplay between data and emotion.
  • Spanish collective V.P.M. returns after a three-year absence to stage ITERACE – The Infinite Rhythm of the City on the neo-Gothic Basilica of St. Ludmila, integrating laser elements for the first time to heighten the fusion of futuristic forms and tradition.

Landmark Installations and Artists

Signal Festival’s open-air program hosts interactive and contemplative works by global luminaries as well as Czech innovators:

  • Bill Viola’s celebrated video piece “Tristan’s Ascension (The Sound of a Mountain Under a Waterfall)” finds new resonance within the National Gallery’s St. Agnes Monastery, offering a powerful meditation on life, death, and transcendence.
  • A 3D water-wall projection floats holograms over the Vltava River, created by Taiwanese studio Peppercorns—a Signal first, transforming the embankment with ethereal digital visuals.
  • Rafani collective’s “Grill Flame” near u Vodárny uses sound, fire, and public performance to critique Prague’s housing crisis, provoking dialogue about the city’s social dynamics.
  • Pavla Sceranková presents an interactive constellation-inspired piece in Riegrovy Sady, encouraging participation and co-creation among visitors.
  • Other notable INSIDE installations feature audiovisual and interactive works from Jan Poš (The Myth of Hyperreality at Klausen Synagogue), Robert Seidel (MLHA at Clam-Gallas Palace), Tadej Droljc (Dinner with a Hyperobject at Savarin Riding Hall), Roelof Knol (Currents at Kampus Hybernská), Josep Poblet (Lux Domus at the Chapel of the Archbishop’s Grammar School), and Viktor Konvalinka & Štěpán Benyovszký (Lone Soul Disco at Tresor Club).

Signal INSIDE: Immersive Ticketed Program

Signal INSIDE, the festival’s ticketed dimension, offers seven unique installations across unconventional interiors, from Gothic monasteries to underground nightclubs. Its carefully curated installations emphasize interactivity, playfulness, and site-specificity, providing deeper engagement for those seeking extended encounters with digital art.

Tickets are available in three tiers:

  • One-Day Ticket: Access to all seven Signal INSIDE installations for one evening (from CZK 290).
  • Four-Day Pass: Unlimited entry and festival audio guide (CZK 390).
  • VIP Ticket: All-access benefits, early entry, skip-the-line privileges, private Mercedes-Benz shuttle, exclusive Signal Space gallery pass, and afterparty access (CZK 1,690).

New: Signal Space – Year-Round Digital Gallery

Signal Festival 2025 inaugurates the permanent digital art space ‘Signal Space’ at Old Town Market, open since 1 October. This new gallery seeks to extend the festival’s energy throughout the year, hosting installations, workshops, and educational programming for all ages. Martin Pošta, Signal’s founder, describes it as a participatory space where visitors become part of the art, fostering new forms of engagement with contemporary digital culture.

Public Forum, Parties, and Conferences

Alongside the core festival experience, the Signal Forum conference convenes international dialogue about the intersection of art, technology, and nature—scheduled this year for Friday, 17 October at the French Institute in Prague, with presentations from leading curators and digital artists. Signal Afterparty events include performances by Czech DJ NobodyListen and rapper Nik Tendo on Saturday, with Icelandic electronic icons GusGus closing out the festival on Sunday.

Community, Legacy, and Vision

Since its founding in 2013, Signal Festival has welcomed over four million visitors, transforming Prague’s autumn nights into extraordinary celebrations of creative possibility. The festival has reimagined city spaces—Florenc metro, historic squares, neglected parks—revitalizing overlooked locations and making contemporary art accessible to broad audiences.

Each edition also positions Prague as a leader among Europe’s digital arts capitals, collaborating with renowned international festivals and nurturing emerging Czech talent.
