MEN’S BASKETBALL: Basket Brno Continue Preseason, Join ENBL

Coach Lubomír Růžička has a lot of player options with which to work and this pre-season is offering a lot of opportunities to watch the chemistry in action. The lineup flexibility fits with Brno’s overall goal: meshing the strong pool of youth players in this region with the senior team en route to a winning season.

Last weekend, Basket Brno hosted the Brno Open Cup at Hala Vodova. They won the first game, 82-59, against UBSC Graz (Austria) by mixing tall lineups with more versatile lineups. Brno lost, 77-88, to Swans Gmunden (Austria) in the second game.

The domestic league starts on Wednesday, September 22nd when Brno hosts GBA Fio banka J. Hradec at Hala Vodova at 6pm.

In addition, Basket Brno announced that they will compete in the European North Basketball League (ENBL), which will put them in the company of top teams from Lithuania (Šiauliai), Latvia (Liepaja, Valmiera Glass), Estonia (Tartu), Belarus (Borisfen Mogilev) and Poland (Anwil Wloclawek).

“I expect quality in the ENBL,” Růžička said. “Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are basketball countries. In Lithuania, basketball is a religion. We will also face the champion of Belarus. Anwil Wloclawek from Poland has regularly played in the EuroCup. We want to be competitive. My private wish is to make it to the Final Four. “
