The popular children’s playground on Obilní trh is once again open to the public after significant reconstruction work. The children’s playing area has been expanded and new elements have been added. The new playground was opened on Tuesday, on the first day of school, by representatives of the city district, together with children and their parents.
“The children’s playground is one of the sought-after destinations for visitors, and its capacity has not been sufficient for a long time,” said Ludmila Oulehlová (ANO), 1st Deputy Mayor of Brno-střed for the environment. “That is why we started the reconstruction, on which we consulted with local residents. The result is a modern children’s playground with new and improved play elements. Next year, we are planning further improvements to the park, which will make it an even more pleasant place to relax and spend free time.”

All game elements are designed to be enjoyed by children of different ages. The youngest visitors can use slides, sandpits, swings, a carousel, and various types of climbing frames. The municipal district of Brno-střed, which manages the park and the playground, started the renovation work on 1 June. The playground was closed to visitors during the works. The town hall chose the summer for the work because some modifications could not be carried out in the winter months, and the playground is less busy during the summer holidays.

“The children’s playground on Obilní trh is very popular with children and parents, even with regard to the nearby traditional hospitality house and maternity hospital,” said the mayor of the Brno-střed district, Vojtěch Mencl (ODS). “After the reconstruction, children can now play on a climbing wall, a slide or children’s houses. The work also included surface treatment, changing the furniture and installing drinking fountains.”
The design of the new playground was developed by the architect Eva Wagnerová. The contractor of the works was hřište.cz, s.r.o., and the subcontractor for the earth work was ZEMAKO. The total costs exceeded CZK 8 million. This is the second reconstruction of a children’s playground completed this year by the town hall, following the recent modernisation of the sports area and children’s playground on Strž street.
