Brno, Nov 13 (BD) — mmcité1 Basket Brno hosts games tonight and Saturday; Brno Amazons complete another undefeated season with Rose Bowl win; Kometa schedule quickens with game tonight at Zlín; VK Šelmy Brno move into first place, Voleybal Brno men’s team wins; VK KP will hold charity event on Saturday; Zbrojovka starts second run through of league at Pardubice next week; Women’s Basketball resumes play Nov. 23; and the Brno sports results and schedule.
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL
Lokomotiva Hosting Plzeň Saturday In Final Fall Game
Lokomotiva Brno-Horní Heršpice traveled to Prague to beat Dukla Praha last week and, after a week of rest, they could take a big step forward by beating FC Viktoria Plzeň at home on Saturday.
The Brno women’s team is now 3-2-5 with 11 points. They are in fifth place in the top women’s league in the country.
Plzeň is in fourth place with a record of 5-0-5 and 15 points.
This game, which starts at 11 a.m., will be the final one before the winter break. The season resumes with three games in February. Then the teams will be split into upper and lower groups for the second phase of the season.
From a goals-scored and goals-allowed point of view, the teams are similar. Both have scored 13 goals through 10 games. Plzeň has given up 26 goals; Brno has allowed 28.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
mmcité1 Basket Brno Has Home Games Tonight, Saturday
mmcité1 Basket Brno has home games tonight and Saturday as it searches for its first win of the 2019-20 Kooperativa NBL season.
Brno was competitive late, but still lost to NH Ostrava, 99-89, on Saturday. Veteran Bryan Smithson led the team with 22 points and Radek Farský scored 18 points in his best game of the season. In any case, Brno is 0-8 in the league.
BK Opava (7-1) visits Campus Square tonight at 8 p.m. Olomoucko (4-4) comes to town on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The final game before a two-week break will be at Kingspan Královští sokoli (1-7) on Nov. 22.
The remaining 11 rounds of the first part of the regular season start in December with another run through the league as teams fight to earn a berth in Group A1, like Brno did last year, and then the postseason.
WOMEN’S AMERICAN FOOTBALL
Brno Amazons Win Fourth Title
The Brno Amazons won their fourth consecutive title in the Women’s American Football top league when they won the fifth Rose Bowl championship game on Sunday afternoon, rallying several times to beat the Warsaw Sirens, 26-18.
The team completed its third consecutive undefeated season.
This Rose Bowl victory was anything but straightforward. The Amazons were down by six in the first half before they tied the game at 6-6 before halftime. In the second half, they gave up two touchdowns within a minute of game time, falling behind by 12.
Then, in front of their home crowd at Bystric Rugby Field, the Amazons scored three more times to pull away for the victory.
Alžběta Heroschová started the comeback with an eight-yard run near the end of the third quarter. The extra point cut the lead to just five.
The fourth quarter was all Amazons: Tereza Kubicová put the team on top with a 31-yard run and, with 7:02 left in the game, Heroschová caught an eight-yard pass from Petra Pejšková to provide the final score.
The Amazons finished the season with a perfect 7-0 record. They outscored their opponents, 280-96 during the regular season.
The Warsaw Sirens, who log a significant amount of travel time to play in the Czech league, finished the regular season with a 2-4 records. Their 175 points scored were enough to get into the title game. The Prague Black Cats (2-4) and the Prague Harpies (2-4), who beat Warsaw twice during the regular season, failed to reach the championship game because of the points scored tiebreaker.

Season Gains Speed with Tonight’s Game
HC Kometa, which is fourth in the Tipsport extraliga, enjoyed a week of rest in order to prepare for the quickening of the season schedule. Now there are 16 games in the remaining month and a half of the calendar year.
Starting today, when Kometa travels to PSG Berani Zlín, there is a game roughly every other day for nine days, including at HC Vitkovice Ridera on Friday; at home against HC Energie Karlovy Vary on Sunday; at HC Oceláři Třinec on Tuesday; and at home against Mountfield HK on Friday, Nov. 22.
Though they recently reached the top of the standings by winning 10 of 11 games, HC Kometa lost twice before this weeklong break and slipped to fourth.
The season is roughly a third of the way through. Sparta is now first in the league with 35 points. Plzeň, Mladá Boleslav and Brno all have 32 points (the order is based on goals allowed and goals scored, which is 16, 15 and 8, respectively).
VOLLEYBALL
Two Matches, Two Wins On Monday
Volejbal Brno drew a large and enthusiastic crowd on Monday and both the women’s and men’s teams came through with important victories.
VK Šelmy Brno moved into the top spot in the Uniqa Extraliga Ženy when they beat Ostrava, 3 sets to 1. Brno now has 26 points through 10 matches. Olomouc is a point back with 25. Ostrava has 22 and Prostějov complete a top four of Moravian teams.
The Šelmy plays at home tomorrow (Thursday) against fourth-place Přerov. The match starts at 6 p.m.
The Volejbal Brno men’s team got stretched into the fifth set, but held on to beat Zlín, 3 sets to 2 in a nationally television match.
Brno is fifth in the league through with 10 points. They host league-leading Karlovarsko (19 points) on Saturday at 6 p.m.
KP Brno Hosts Olymp, Kápéčko pro Agátku Saturday
KP Brno next plays at home against Olymp on Saturday at 6 p.m. The match will be accompanied by a charity event called „Kápéčko pro Agátku“ to raise funds for a 10-year-old player who became ill with acute leukemia at the beginning of the school year.
Last Saturday, Přerov beat visiting Královo Pole, 3-1. Královo Pole is in seventh place in the league with eight points.
MEN’S FOOTBALL
Zbrojovka Rolls Over Prostějov, Leader Pardubice Next
FC Zbrojovka held onto their fourth-place position after one run through the Fortuna:Narodni Liga but their 5-0 victory over Prostějov on Friday put them atop the scoring list with 33 goals.
Zbrojovka, which is 8-4-3 for 28 points, will play at league-leading Pardubice (11-2-2, 35 points) on Nov. 23. That game will start at 10:15 a.m.
Zbrojovka has been on a roll, winning five of their last six games. They have scored at least four goals in their previous four wins. Their only loss in the past six weeks was an 0-1 disappointment at Žižkov on Oct. 26.
On Friday, in front of 2,492 on a nice autumn night, five different players scored.
Adam Fousek scored in the 27th minute to put Brno up 1-0 at halftime. A red card removed a Prostějov player early in the second half and helped fuel the subsequent scoring: Michal Šmíd scored in the 52nd minute; Ondřej Pachlopník got a goal in the 79th minute and an assist in just 16 minutes of play after a two month absence; and Jakub Přichystal notched his fourth goal in four games when he scored in the 84th minute.
Ondřej Vaněk, who scored on a direct kick from just beyond the penalty box in the 67th minute, also had two assists. He has four goals in eight games for Brno.
Meanwhile, SK Líšeň, on Saturday, salvaged a point with a 1-1 tie at FK Fotbal Třinec when Martin Zikl scored in the 90th minute. Líšeň is ninth in the league with a record for 5-5-5 and 20 points — and an impressive 29 goals scored (fourth in the league).
Most of the league will take a pause of the international break. Líšeň, however, will play its final home game and the final game of the fall season on Saturday against MFK Chrudim. That game starts at 1:30 p.m.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
League Play Pauses for Two Weeks
Žabiny Brno beat SBŠ Ostrava, 54-81, on Wednesday to move into fourth place in the Renomia ŽBL just before the two-week international break.
ZVVZ USK Praha (8-0) is the top team. Sokol H. Králové (7-1) has lost only to Praha. KP Brno (6-2) has lost only to Praha and Hradec Králové. Žabiny Brno (4-5) is fourth.
The two-week pause is to allow for international games as part of qualifying for Eurobasket 2021.
When league play resumes, KP Brno will host DSK Levhartice Chomutov on Nov. 23 and Žabiny Brno travels to Slovanka MB on Nov. 24.
In international tournament play, KP Brno played excellent defense and held on to beat Gorzow (POL), 71-67, last Wednesday in Group A of the EuroCup.
