This past weekend, a total of 50 Brno City Police officers joined thousands of volunteers in the clean-up drive organised by Ukliďme svět, ukliďme Česko (Clean Up the World, Clean Up Czech Republic). Photo credit: MP Brno.
Brno, Apr 8 (BD) – “According to the data available, there were 2,273 cleaning events which were held during the weekend, involving 65,000 volunteers. So many volunteers in the Czech Republic have never cleaned up in history in the past,” said Miroslav Kubásek, the founder of Ukliďme Česko.
Though the weather was not as pleasant as expected, the officers picked up garbage alongside the volunteers. Altogether, the most frequently picked up rubbish included energy drink cans, plastic bottles, polystyrene, and cardboard boxes.
Among the curious findings that the officers had during this year’s clean-up were air conditioning units, shoes, cookware, cassette recorders, car covers, duvets, strollers, suitcases, chairs, mattresses, and road signs.
During Saturday’s “spring cleaning” by Ukliďme svět, ukliďme Česko, the officers filled almost 100 sacks of garbage.
Throughout the clean-up events last year, an incredible amount of garbage was collected – at 2100 tons. The past weekend’s clean-ups boasts more than half of the total garbage collected entirely in the previous year, at 1120 tons.
