The development of flood protection measures is one of the strategic projects of the City of Brno. After the completion of works on Poříčí, further stages are being prepared in Trnitá. The city has now received a decision approving a subsidy grant of CZK 1.815 billion from Operational Programme Environment 2021–2027, the European Commission’s environmental subsidy fund.
“We are currently looking for a contractor for the construction of stages IX to XI,” said Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková. “We were extremely pleased to learn that the maximum possible amount of subsidy had been allocated. Flood control measures are essential for the further development of the city, it is primarily about protecting the health of residents and property. In addition, the rivers are regaining their natural character and new places and routes for rest and relaxation will be created.”
According to René Černý, Deputy Mayor for Investment, the tender process for the contractor is currently underway, and the city is gradually addressing questions from potential applicants. The selection decision should be known in the first quarter of 2027.
