Brno, Jun 3 (BD) – FN Brno, the city’s largest hospital and the Moravian centre of coronavirus response, had to close a ward today due to an outbreak of confirmed coronavirus cases. 13 cases were detected, including six patients and seven health workers. According to hospital director Jaroslav Štěrba: “We closed one ward, and carried out disinfection. The other patients were moved to other wards, and the patients with coronavirus were transferred to the infectious diseases clinic.” According to the hospital’s Twitter account, the confirmed cases were found in the Departments of Internal Medicine, Geriatric Care, and General Practice.

The director added that such occurrences were expected, and did not constitute an emergency. “The coronavirus is far from over, and we have to assume that similar situations will occur in the future. We have a standard procedure in place for such situations, which is being followed.”

According to the Ministry of Health, South Moravia has seen 567 cases of coronavirus since the pandemic began, with 450 of those now recovered. Across the whole Czech Republic, 131 people are still in hospital with the disease.
