Brno, Sep 29 (BD) – Art lovers, this is your week. The Days of Architecture and the Brno Days of Design will both fill the city with culture, talks and beauty. But there are also events for everyone else: coffee markets, paper products, movie shootings and the 155th anniversary of Brno’s firefighting service. All this and more, this week in Brno.
If you love acting and you want to experiment, on Tuesday 1st October you should check out “The Randoms: Improv Comedy”, the first English speaking improv comedy club in Brno, which lets you be the director of your own play, in one experimental, fun and unpredictable show. Want to know more about the city you live in and the buildings that surround you? From Tuesday to Sunday you can join the Days of Architecture (Den Architecktury) in Brno. The 9th annual festival will be focusing on 100 years of Bauhaus style, and there will be city walks, workshops, films, tours and other events. Among the other talks, academic Tatjana Schneider will give a lecture in English entitled “Are we architects? As a part of the Days of Architecture, special screenings of architecture-themed movies will be organized in the city for the Film and Architecture Festival. Most of them will be in English or with English subtitles; you can read the full program here.
Everyone loves food, especially good food! From Wednesday until Saturday, the “Good Food Celebration” (Slavnosti dobrého jídla) will be the perfect chance to taste amazing dishes, sweets and treats from all over the world on Namesti Svobody, accompanied with beer and wine. Need to digest all that good food? On Friday and Saturday Namesti Svobody will also host the “Coffee Market 2019” (Trhy kávy 2019) with more than 20 coffee roasteries. You can even vote to decide which one has the best coffee! You can find more information on the Facebook event page.
Four cameras, one hour to shoot, then a screening: those are the ingredients for the “Gob Squad: Super Night Shot” on Thursday. The world-famous collective will come to Brno and shoot their performance, remodelling the everyday world around us into a glamorous, unpredictable blockbuster. The screening starts at 9pm at the Břetislav Bakala Hall and the tickets are on sale for CZK 200 (CZK 130 for students and seniors). From Thursday to Sunday the Brno Days of Design will transform the face of the city. This year the theme is “Retail Therapy”, and the city will be enriched by seminars, workshops and a design exhibition. If you love riding motorbikes, there is an exciting event awaiting you on Friday. The Motoshow Record 2019 – created a week after the tragic death of popular MotoGP racer Marco Simoncelli in 2011 – will be held in Brno. By attending and getting onto the racetrack, even if you’re not a pro, you can help break the record of 3,795 bikers. Tickets cost CZK 650, and you can find more information on the Motoshow website.
Another interesting event coming up this week is the 155th anniversary celebration of the Brno Fire Department on Friday. At 11am, there will be an exhibition of firetrucks and other fire equipment, and later there will be an award ceremony for the new firefighters. The event will be an awesome experience for families with children, as there will be many interesting activities for kids. For more information, follow the Facebook event.
Are you into blues? Then you surely won’t want to miss the Czech Blues Challenge 2019. On Saturday, there will be a contest of Czech blues bands at the Czech Blues Association, followed by a live concert by Nick Schnebelen. If you want to go, you can find more information here.
We all have at least one friend who’s crazy about notebooks and related items. Well, on Saturday you can join that friend at Meet Paper Brno (Meet Papír Brno) and get fascinated by diaries, notebooks, papercrafts and many other paper products. You could even buy some Christmas gifts in advance! The event starts at 10am in Zelný Trh; you can find more information (in Czech) on the Facebook event page.
For those who love horse racing, there is an event on Saturday that you should definitely attend. The “Horse Racing Brno-Dvorska” (Dostihy Brno-Dvorska 5.10.2019) starts at 2pm. There will be eight exciting races, both flat and hurdle, as well as pony races. Apart from that, there will be fun activities for kids, such as pony riding.
