Czech Rep., Aug 27 (BD) – The government will provide CZK 7.5 billion to support sports from the 2022 budget, an increase of CZK 1.5 billion from this year. According to Czech news outlet Ceske Noviny, the figure was agreed by Finance Minister Alena Schillerová and Filip Neusser, Chair of the National Sports Agency (NSA).

“We will increase the budget for sport by one and a half billion crowns,” said Schillerová. “This is money that can be provided from this year’s budget and public savings in order that the National Sports Agency can start concluding contracts, in the context of their current surpluses, but the money will only be available to spend next year.”

“I would like to thank the Minister for her very constructive negotiations on the 2022 budget,” said Neusser. “I am very pleased that we have increased the budget by one and a half billion crowns for sport, and agreed that sport is a priority, not only for the Minister but for everyone. We need healthy children and a fit nation.”

Neusser, who replaced Milan Hnilička as head of NSA in mid-May, welcomed the increase in state support for sport, in light of a number of the agency’s plans for next year. “This year we are facing a huge surplus of investment projects, now up to CZK 7 billion,” he said. “And at the same time we are planning to focus on youth and activities around kindergartens and primary schools next year, which are very important from my point of view. We have a completely revolutionary program that we would like to develop.”
