Coronavirus: Update on Situation in South Moravia

Brno, Mar 19 (BD) [updated 6:01 PM] – The South Moravian Region (JMK) now has 45 confirmed cases of Covid-19, according to The Regional Hygiene Authority of South Moravia.

Brno University Hospital (FN Brno) has begun accepting blood donations again, after they were stopped last Friday due to a computer network failure caused by a cyberattack. The hospital supplies blood to other medical facilities in the region. The power outage was solved using reserves. FN Brno is the centre for coronavirus testing in the South Moravian Region.

The D2 motorway near the Lanžhot / Brodská border crossing has had traffic jams of several kilometres today. Hungary has introduced strict checks at its borders, including Slovakia, due to the spread of coronavirus.

According to the Czech Ministry of Health, as of 6pm, there were 694 confirmed cases of COVID-19 from over 9,402 tested in the Czech Republic (the number of tests is updated daily in the morning). Three people have recovered. More men (284) are ill with Covid-19 than women (243).

Most domestic car production has been halted due to the risk of spreading Covid-19.

FlixBus has announced that both international (from March 14th) and domestic (from March 21st) bus routes will not be running until further notice.

Interior Minister Jan Hamacek has reported that 1.1 million respirators are being loaded onto a plane in Shanghai, China, destined for the Czech Republic. They should arrive on Friday.

Authorities also dismissed as “fake news” reports that the capital Prague will be closed in quarantine.

We are now waiting for a press conference following a meeting of the Czech government. PM Babis has announced that the goverment might amend the exclusive shopping time allocated to senior citizens.
