Coronavirus: Update on Situation in South Moravia

The cases reported in South Moravia involve a couple that returned from a skiing holiday in the Dolomite Mountains in Italy, according to Adam Vojtech, Czech Minister of Health. Upon arriving home on March 8th, they contacted the hospital for tests, which were conducted at their home. They were later admitted by Brno University Hospital (FN Brno). The couple has been sent home where it remains in home isolation, according to the South Moravian Regional Hygiene Authority.

An 84-year-old woman from South Moravia is being treated in the Infectious Diseases Department of the University Hospital in Bohunice, according to March 12 report of the South Moravian Regional Hygiene Authority.

The fourth case in South Moravia has been reported by Minister Vojtech this morning.

As of 7:00 AM this morning, there were 117 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the Czech Republic, from 2,353 people tested.

In the period from January 27th – March 12th 2020, epidemiologists from the South Moravian Regional Hygiene Authority conducted over 600 consultations with patients with suspected cases of the new coronavirus.

In 108 cases (26 reported on Wednesday), specialized tests for the presence of the infection were carried out; as of March 12th 10:00 AM, 70 of the tests have come back negative.
