Brno, Sep 23 (BD) – “I believe that it is possible to achieve the harmony of physiological care – natural – in the safety that our state-of-the-art maternity hospital provides,” said Vít Weinberger, Head of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Brno University Hospital (FN Brno), and the ideas man behind the new midwifery center in Brno.
The department is opening a Midwifery Center at both of its facilities, in Bohunice and on Obilní trh, on October 1st, 2021. This will strengthen the provision of natural obstetrics and the role of the midwife in the care of pregnant and parturient women and their families in the Czech Republic.
The Midwifery Center is a concept of care, not a building or new department. A pregnant woman or a woman giving birth with a low risk of complications is cared for by a midwife according to clearly defined rules.
“I see a doctor and a midwife as two equal cooperating professions,” said Weinberger. “A midwife is the most suitable medical professional in the care of a healthy pregnant woman. She is a woman’s guide and support so that she can make full use of the power that nature has given her to give birth to her child. The doctor is educated and ready to intervene in the event of a complication or pathology at any time during antenatal check-ups or childbirth.”
Within the Center, there are already outpatient clinics where healthy women can see a midwife from the 37th week of pregnancy. The maternity hospital has expanded the range of antenatal classes and individual consultations, and now also offers these services online.
The maternity hospital also strives to ensure that as many services as possible provided by the Center are covered by health insurance.
The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at FN Brno is the largest clinic in the Czech Republic, with 6,000 births and 5,500 gynecological operations. It is the designated perinatology center for the South Moravian Region, so its experts are able to provide highly qualified care for the most complicated and serious cases during pregnancy and childbirth.
