The whole of Brno will become a hive of creativity from today until 24 October, as the Brno Creative Festival arrives, combining design, art, technology, gaming, and DIY.
“The Autumn Brno Creative Festival has been bringing together several diverse independent events that show how creative people are in Brno, and how they are constantly moving forward,” said Brno City Councilor Martin Příborský. “Everyone can find something in this year’s program, including those who are deeply interested in current technologies and understand them from a professional perspective, as well as anyone else who wants to play and discover.”
He added that some events are free of charge without registration, while others may require reservation and an entrance fee. For more information, see the website kreativni.brno.cz.

The Brno Creative Festival, which in recent years has operated under the Brno Creative Days brand, opened yesterday, 24 September, at Boldhalle, with the opening of the exhibition of photographer Vladimír KIVA Novotný – No Need to Answer.
The first three days of October will see the Prototype festival, coming to the streets of Brno for the first time, and taking over the city center with light, art and technology. The facades of the New Town Hall and the Grandezza Hotel will be illuminated by video mapping, and an original light and sound show, The Path of Light, has been created for the nave of St. James Church.
The following week, Prototyp will be followed by the 12th annual KOMA international comic book festival, hosted by Brno Káznice on Cejl from 8-11 October. This year, it is subtitled ‘Shortcuts’ – not only in the sense of a faster way to one’s destination, but also as a connection between subcultures, minorities and peoples. One of this year’s themes will be new comics by female authors, and in addition to exhibitions, the program also includes a pub quiz, a live podcast, and the traditional concerts, this year including the duo LAOKOON + Dvě Slunce and Pivoňka + post-music.
Creatives are invited to the Brno exhibition center on the third weekend of October for the established combination of Brno Maker Faire and GameDev Connect, the key link of which is interactivity. Maker Faire is about making, experimenting and repairing things. This year, more than 110 makers will be presenting their work, from robotics, electronics and 3D printing, through experimental construction, to projects on the border of science, design and technology. The event will have something for families with children, experts and students.

At GameDev Connect, games are not just for watching, but for playing, and you can discuss them directly with their authors. Professional developers, budding creators, students, schools and gaming enthusiasts meet in one place. This year’s edition places greater emphasis on students and education and also features more from the world of board games.
The Brno Creative Festival will return to Káznice on 19 and 22 October as part of the Living Memory of Káznice. Its two programs will convey the history of this space to visitors in new ways. During the Autoteatro, viewers are also participants in the events; they listen to a recording on headphones that guides them step by step through the plot and the fates of two characters. At the same time, they receive instructions on where to move, what to do, and how to interact with the environment and other participants. The real space of the former prison thus becomes part of the narrative itself. Meanwhile, the 50th Live program works with a specific acoustic experience. The content connects fiction with real testimonies, and provides context for the history of Káznice and how the problematic past can be presented through current technologies.
On Friday, 23 October, the city’s digital application Navrženo (neže) v Brno, which presents local creators and their products online, will be transferred to the offline world at KUMST. Visitors can see or try various local products and get to know the people behind them. The selection ranges from fashion and products for children to gastronomy, cosmetics and other local products.
Throughout the duration of the Brno Creative Festival, a playful exhibition in Bystrc uses the construction fences near the Brno Zoo to reveal the functioning of the zoo and who all participate in it. Thanks to UrbanPlayers, a place that people would simply walk past becomes a full-fledged part of their visit to the zoo. Several guided tours are also planned, on 12 and 13 October.
The program is also complemented by a series of conferences, workshops and forums. On Wednesday, 14 October, the second annual Urban Forum public debate will take place in the Schrott gallery, focusing on the form of public space and how the needs of different groups of residents are taken into account when planning it. This year’s debate focuses heavily on the experience of young people and Generation Z.
A week later, on Tuesday, 20 October, the MEDIA AGE agency is organizing the third annual Data in Brand conference at the CO.LABS cultural center, with a full-day program included for the first time. Among the announced guests are David Duc, Petr Machovec, Klára Lošková, Vojtěch Oravec, Adam Šilhan, Michal Krhut, and Jan Pacas, who will focus on topics such as customer and product data and data-driven decision-making, research, algorithms, AI, and creative measurement.
The DESIGN NOW festival, connecting contemporary approaches in design and architecture, will now be spread over two days, from 23-24 October. Friday’s Open KUMST program expands the professional format by opening the environment of a creative hub for a meeting of the local community. On the same day, KUMST will also host a separate, but thematically closely connected municipal event Designed (not only) in Brno LIVE. Workshops and lectures will follow on Saturday. This year’s theme: ‘Everyday Futures – Designing with Limits’ asks who can afford to be sustainable in our day and age? Sustainability is not a simple solution for everything, and the conference will open a debate on the contradiction between the ideal and the everyday reality of design.
The City of Brno contributed a total of approximately CZK 5 million to the individual events included in the Brno Creative Festival.
