Plans for this year’s Christmas celebrations have been approved by Brno City Council. The festive season will follow a similar format as last year, and be integrated with New Year’s Eve celebrations. Brno, Jun 12 (BD) – Brno Councillors approved the architectural concept of Brno Christmas 2020 this week, as well as the New Year’s Eve event, which will be organised together. Like last year, the Christmas event will be held on Náměstí Svobody and Dominikánské Náměstí under the baton of Tourist Information Centre Brno (TIC Brno).
Although approving the preparations six months in advance may seem premature, especially in light of the pandemic, Mayor of Brno Markéta Vaňková insisted that this is necessary: “The markets will begin in less than six months, and every year it is a very large project. Thanks to several very successful years, the Christmas markets in Brno are currently among the most visited attractions in the Czech Republic during Advent and Christmas, and are gradually making it onto the Christmas map on a European scale. Last year alone, 1.4 million people visited our Christmas markets.”
The Brno Christmas event will start on November 27th this year, and last until January 3rd. A similar range of gastronomic stalls as last year is planned, and the illumination of the trees will take place on Svobody Namesti and Zelny trh on the same day. New Year’s Eve celebrations will take a similar form as last year as well, according to Kristýna Černá, a representative of Brno marketing and tourism.
The plans for this year’s celebrations have been in the making since February. While no major changes have been made yet, Černá has said that the city is prepared to adjust to the current situation if necessary.
