Brno’s Days of Electron Microscopy Start Today

The annual Brno Days of Electron Microscopy starts today, and will run until 29 March. The festival invites visitors into the realm of nanoparticles, bacteria and cells, exploring the hidden microworld and the secrets of otherwise inaccessible laboratories, through a program of excursions, lectures, screenings, science shows, exhibitions, and workshops

The program was prepared by VIDA! Science Center, the Institute of Physics of Materials of the Czech Academy of Sciences, and the Brno Observatory and Planetarium, which organizes the whole festival.

The Digitarium on Kraví hora will be screening a marathon of the popular series ‘Once Upon a Time in Life’ over the last weekend of March, and VIDA! is preparing Micro Workshops. For adults, there will be a lecture about beer on 27 March, when the Brno company Tescan will present the structure of the ingredients used in the production of the golden liquid, as well as the surfaces of the tools with which the beer comes into contact.

On 28 March, the CEITEC Science and Research Center will demonstrate 3D models of viruses, invite visitors into the depths of its laboratories, and introduce their scientists. The anatomy of the human body will be illustrated with electron microscope images by Delong Instruments. Microscopic images will also be exhibited at Vaňkovka, along with this year’s mascot: the inflatable E. coli bacterium. Most events on the program are free, but some require registration. You can find out more about the program on the website dembrno.cz.
