06/19 Summer City Fest “UPROSTŘED” Kick-Off
Summer city festival UPROSTŘED (“In the Middle”) starts on Monday June 19 under auspices of Brno Mayor and Brno-Centre district – an all day celebration showcasing music, sports, food & drinks, and fun on-site experiences.
You can look forward to Asian culture insights, meditation with monks, workshop for cyclists with free expert consultations, longboard competion, or public swing dance lessons. There’s something for everyone!
The festival opens up at 15:00 at Moravské náměstí park. The opening event is called “The Mysterious Himalayas: Meeting India.” The program features exotic Indian dances and Indian cuisine tasting. At 15:30, Brno-střed Mayor welcomes the visitors. After the formalities, you may see Dila – an exotic dance show from Himalayas.
Right after, the program moves to Malinovského náměstí where Nepalese monk Dolpo Tulku Rinpoče performs a Buddhist ritual of the initiation to a stupa. Stupa is a hill-like structure that is used as a place for meditation of Buddhist monks. At the same time, there is an official opening of an open-air exhibition of Nepalese themed photographs.
At 4 pm, at Římské náměstí, there starts a bicycle workshop. At this event, you can consult a mechanic with experience, meet friends and cycling enthusiasts, and enjoy minimal techno, funk and soul (DJ Alien and SOMA) while sipping on alcoholic/non-alcoholic drinks and grabbing Funky donuts.
If you do not fancy bikes, there is a longboard event in front of Janáčkovo divadlo (Janáček Theater) at 18:00. If you do not own one, don’t worry, you can borrow a longboard at the event. For the experienced skaters, there will be a competition – a race between the cones at 20:00. Refreshments and music are provided.
For those who want to shake the dust off their bones, there are public swing dance lessons. At 19:00 in gazebo of Denisovy sady, everyone is welcome to come and learn how to dance to funky jazz music.
But wait, there’s more! Festival UPROSTŘED features many other events throughout the whole summer. Stay tuned for festival updates!
