Weekend Trip to Lednice Castle
This weekend Brno has many events going on; but if you wish to escape the city, Lednice Chateau is an ideal option, just an hour away from Brno with frequent trains heading there.
Lednice Chateau is a majestic mansion brought here right out from a fairy-tale. Built in the 17th century by an aristocratic family Lichtenstein and used as a summer mansion…yes, you’re reading right, mere summer house! In 1996 UNESCO recognized Lednice a national heritage. The castle has a breath-taking front garden and huge park that will amaze you.
You can enjoy long walks in the gardens and park or rent a bike. You can also buy tickets on spot and visit the inside of the castle. From May to August, the castle is open to the public from 9:00 to 18:00 everyday, except Mondays. Also, there are boat trips available and we highly recommend them!
What’s just as amazing as the castle in Lednice is local wine. Don’t skip wine tasting there. You can spot cellars around the town. They offer wine specialties, ask for a recommendation to match your taste and you won’t be disappointed. Get a bottle or two back to home, we’re sure you’d miss that distinctive taste after a while.
To reach Lednice, you don’t have to book tickets in advance. Just check the train connection (IDOS app works perfectly) and buy tickets directly from the booths at Brno Main Station. You get off at the train station Podivin and then take a local bus to Lednice. If you have a transportation pass you’ll pay less for the ticket.
Entry fees: Adults: 150 CZK / Children, students, pensioners: 100 CZK / Family: 400 CZK
Sightseeing in foreign language (German, English): supplementary charge 50 CZK per person
